Meet Inga

Hello! I am the Inga in ORKNEYiNGA TOURS. I was born and raised here and have had the privilege of living the majority of my life right in the Heart of Neolithic Orkney - a truly local guide. Showing visitors who come to Orkney around our World Heritage Sites is a full circle moment for me. As a teenager, I spent many days cycling between the sites, playing hide and seek amongst the standing stones and pretending to be a tourist, posing for photos on our disposable cameras! At that time, I also acted in a Children’s BBC series about life in the stone age, set in Skara Brae, Maeshowe and Barnhouse Village, and here I am today, sharing all of these places with you!

My favourite places to share with guests include the Italian Chapel. I have had the privilege of being part of The Friends of the Italian Chapel charity for many years, and I am passionate about sharing this incredibly special symbol of peace and hope with others. Another place very close to my heart is Happy Valley - the wooded garden and burn at Bankburn. My heart is always full of contentment whenever I visit there and I usually burst into the song we learned about it at school, much to my children’s embarrassment! It is also very common to find me in one of Orkney’s many cafés or restaurants, enjoying the delicious local produce that we are famous for.

As well as sharing my beautiful homeland with visitors, I am also a primary teacher. This job has taken me to all of our inhabited islands. Taking the world’s shortest commercial flight to work is one of the many perks! I am delighted to welcome children on my tours and I will go out of my way to make the day interesting for them.

We have a vibrant community here in Orkney and there are so many talented people - from sports people and musicians to artists and many more. I can often be found trackside at our fantastic sport and leisure centre, at the local theatre enjoying a performance by one of our wonderful local drama groups, or taking part in a creative workshop with one our fantastic local craftspeople.

I have so much to share with you, and I love to learn about you and where you come from as well. I take great pleasure in creating a tour that caters for your interests. Whether you want to learn about the fascinating history of our islands, or perhaps you want to follow the craft trail or soak up the beauty of the landscapes and the local food and drinks - I can help you make memories to last a lifetime.
